Inauguration of Professor to Prof. Herianto and Prof. Aris Buntoro

Prof. Dr. Ir. Drs. Herianto, M.T. and Prof. Dr. Ir. Aris Buntoro, M.T., was confirmed as Professor of Petroleum.

In his scientific oration, Prof. Dr. Ir. Drs. Herianto discussed the theme of Applying the Well Integrity Concept and Drilling Management to Increase the Success of Exploration Drilling Projects. He revealed that the success of oil and gas exploration will have a positive impact on increasing national energy reserves and achieving national energy security targets. However, to achieve this, oil and gas exploration needs to be carried out thoroughly. Herianto is worried about the energy condition in Indonesia because oil and gas is still the main energy source that is really needed by society. Obstacles such as drilling problems often become obstacles in exploration activities.

Even though Indonesia still has promising basin potential, Herianto emphasized the importance of collecting accurate subsurface data. Careful risk analysis is required to overcome potential failures and obstacles that may arise during the exploration drilling process. Herianto also explained that there are four steps that must be taken to reduce risks in exploration drilling activities.

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aris Buntoro, who was also appointed as a professor in the field of petroleum, discussed his research on the Contributions of Geomechanics and Mineralogy Research in Understanding Shale Character related to Drill Hole Instability and Development of Energy Sources from Shale. Aris revealed that geomechanics is a branch of mechanical science that focuses on the study of the earth's crust and the processes that occur in it. Therefore, research in the field of geomechanics and mineralogy is expected to support the development of the upstream oil and gas industry which is currently growing rapidly..

Aris also highlighted that the application of geomechanics and mineralogy can help overcome instability in drill holes during oil and gas exploration. In this way, it is hoped that the efficiency of the drilling process can be increased, reduce unproductive time, and increase overall oil production.

Aris emphasized the importance of close collaboration between universities and the oil and gas industry, especially with PT. Pertamina, as a unique stakeholder in the field of mechanics which studies phenomena in the earth's crust, as well as mineralogy as a branch of biology which focuses on research on minerals in their various forms. both individual and aggregate.
